Norma Winstone Trio
The Grande Dame of British Jazz presents her new ECM album "Descansado - Music For Films", poetic and filigree, dynamic and entertaining
Norma Winstone, the icon of British jazz singing, has been thrilling audiences and critics in Europe, Australia, Asia and America with her trio for almost 20 years now (in 2008, for example, the three were nominated for a Grammy with "Distances"). With German saxophonist, clarinetist and composer Klaus Gesing and Italian pianist and composer Glauco Venier, she combines different musical traditions and genres: from jazz ballad to contemporary chamber music and from folklore to pop. This creates a new kind of music, chamber jazz with its own beauty and aesthetics.
Earlier this year the new album "Descansado - Music For Films" was released, like its predecessors of course on ECM, and is dedicated to directors like Jean-Luc Godard, Franco Zeffirelli and Michael Redford and film music composers Michel Legrand, Nino Rota and Louis Bacalov.
