Jazzkalender #341

Let's talk about jazz... and breaks

The Germans have become lazy. At least that's what you might think if you've been following the media discourse in recent times. The once much-vaunted "work-life balance" is increasingly falling into disrepute. And some of the statements made by political leaders make you want to defiantly respond with Pipi Longstocking, who sang cheerfully and carefree almost 60 years ago: "Being lazy is wonderful."

The intellectual superstructure of the popular children's song was once provided by the British philosopher Bertrand Russel, from whom I recently read that "without the class of idlers, men would still be barbarians today". The catch is that - at least in my case - there is far too little time for idleness throughout the year. I assume most of you will be no different.

But now the summer season has begun, so we as a Jazzclub are also taking a short break from events in July and August. But of course that doesn't mean that you have to do without good live music for the next two months. The festival season, for example, is only just picking up speed. Whether it's the South Tyrol Jazz Festival, the Kulturarena Jena, the Rudolstadt Festival or the legendary Montreux Jazz Festival, there's no shortage of musically recommended excursion destinations in the near future.

Meanwhile, our team has long since begun preparations for the upcoming 49th Leipziger Jazztage. It will still be a little while before we announce the final line-up. But we can already take a look at the first highlights. You can find out who on the following pages.

However, if you don't want to miss any updates in this regard, we recommend that you visit our website or our social media channels regularly - or sign up for our newsletter. In the coming months, we will be presenting all festival news there in digital real time.

But for now, I wish you happy reading and a wonderful summer! And very important: don't forget to take breaks!

See you soon,

Luca
