Double concert with Andromeda Mega Express Orchestra.
Based on the piece "Harvest Time" by US tenor saxophonist Pharoah Sanders, who died two years ago in 1977, a fluid project has formed around renowned jazz musicians to pay tribute to his improvisational masterpiece. In Leipzig, the British free jazz trio Ill Considered will now meet the South African future folk artist Dumama for the first time.
Together with Chicago bassist Joshua Abrams, Sanders' long-time companion Tisziji Muñoz runs the Harvest Time project, which not only transports the spirit of Sanders' composition into the present, but also opens it up for the future. The line-up is just as flexible as the final result: what happens on stage depends on both the personalities involved and the energy of the moment. In Leipzig, the two musicians will perform together with the British band Ill Considered, a trio that combines a variety of musical idioms from punk to noise and free jazz to transcultural sounds on the basis of free improvisation. An additional guest will be South African singer Dumama, who is expected to expand Sanders' input with elements of future folk, performative shamanism and hip hop.
Afterwards: Andromeda Mega Express Orchestra
An artist talk with Harvest Time, hosted by Arne Reimer, will take place at 6 pm in the Venussaal at MuKo (admission free for concert guests).
