It was one of the highlights of last year's Jazz Days: the John Lennon program "And we all shine on", specially arranged for the festival by Gregor Mayer, musical director of the Gewandhaus Choir. Together with the Vocalconsort Leipzig (choir), Matthias Knoche (vocals) and Ekkehard Meister (piano), he performed it in the Reformed Church. This tribute was inspired by Jazzclub Leipzig on the occasion of Lennon's 70th birthday and the 30th anniversary of his death. The performance turned into a moving concert experience, with standing ovations and sustained applause and several requests for an encore. With so much encouragement, it almost went without saying that this project could not end with a single performance. Further Lennon concerts followed and in February 2011 the CD was recorded in the Bethlehem Church in Leipzig. The result is a lively and unusual crossover record, precise, funny and moving.
