John Lennon tribute "And we all shine on" released on CD
"Refined and subtle arrangements, brilliant piano playing, virtuoso jazz singing and, at the heart of it all, a choir whose radiant clarity sends shiver after shiver down the listener's spine." (Friedemann Richter)
It was one of the highlights of last year's Jazz Days: the John Lennon program "And we all shine on," arranged especially for the festival by Gregor Mayer, musical director of the Gewandhaus Choir. Together with the Vocalconsort Leipzig (choir), Matthias Knoche (vocals) and Ekkehard Meister (piano), he performed it in the Reformed Church. On the occasion of Lennon's 70th birthday and 30th anniversary of his death, the Jazzclub Leipzig had suggested this tribute. The performance became a touching concert experience, with standing ovations and sustained applause, and there were several calls for an encore. With so much encouragement, it was almost self-evident that this project could not end with a single performance. More Lennon concerts followed and in February 2011 the CD was recorded in the Bethlehem Church in Leipzig. The result is a lively and unusual crossover record, precise, funny and moving.
The order of the CD (15 EUR plus shipping costs) is possible by e-mail.
