Hole in the World - A Nils Koppruch Evening
with Ralph Schüller & Band, The Elegant Remnant, Las Mananitas, Reitler and Charlemagne
Nils Koppruch and his band Fink translated Alternative Country and Americana from Hamburg into German in the 90s. Or better: translated. Because yes, they played banjo, washboard and harmonica in addition to guitar-drums-bass. But instead of lonely cowboys in steppes and highway dives, Koppruch shuffled through his songs as an oddball corner man through the port of Hamburg, just like in real life. And back then, the harbor was still a rough workplace for whole guys and rusty cranes. He wrote songs about flies buzzing around, stewed apples and cherries, as well as some of the most beautiful love songs in the German language ever.
And then he just died on October 10, 2012, at 46, so about 46 years too early. We put on his "Ich wein einen Fluss" again and again. Because much more has remained than "bones and flesh" (as he sang with Gisbert zu Knyphausen), on the fifth anniversary of his death Leipzig's indie rock singer/songwriter heroes Ralph Schüller & Band, Der Elegante Rest, Reitler, Las Mananitas and Karl die Große will play some of the songs of the Hamburg wool cap wearer.
If you like Element of Crime, please go there. Who rather Bukowski: also. And who does not flee indoors in the rain and wind, but just turns up the collar a bit and warms up with a cigarette, is also quite right here. And if a few girls came, the bands would surely be happy too...!
