All four musicians have been on stage and in the studio for many nationally and internationally successful artists for years, have teaching positions at universities and are even professors in some cases. But in the band Drei vom Rhein, they come together to do what they actually set out to do. Namely, to play the music they want to play, far removed from the question of commerciality or exploitability. Music as a compelling, unconditional artistic expression in which the whole is clearly more than the sum of its parts. What began as a power fusion trio at the beginning of the nineties has undergone extensive development to this day. With the arrival of singer and guitarist Pit Hupperten in 2002 (three became four at the time), the musical focus has shifted: the song, the song as a unity of (rock) music and German lyrics is now more clearly at the center, the solo escapades of the 'Musicians-Music' of the early days fade more into the background. At the same time, the music of Drei vom Rhein always remains energetic and rocking without being dull and (on the other hand) clever without being cerebral. After 6 releases and numerous concerts in Germany and tours through Indonesia, Turkey and Central Asia, Drei vom Rhein sound as fresh as on the first day. At the same time, however, they have developed a somnambulistic tightness that is second to none. At every one of their concerts, Drei vom Rhein set off a veritable live firework display, where they repeatedly reaffirm their outstanding reputation for being world class. Current CD: Drei vom Rhein plays Uncle Frank With their latest release, the musicians of Drei vom Rhein pay homage to Uncle Frank (meaning Frank Zappa, of course) and his work. The quartet easily lives up to its claim of not simply covering Zappa, but expressing his fascination in its own words: the earthy-sounding grooves of Helmuth Fass on bass form the foundation for the world-class rocking performances of Werner Neumann on guitar and drummer Alex Vesper. Pit Hupperten, who of course has the hardest time with the vocal interpretation, also manages this balancing act with bravura, and of course there is no shortage of humor - after all, this is one of the most important elements of Zappa's work. The only question that remains to be answered is whether it is a coincidence that Drei vom Rhein was founded in the year of Zappa's death.
