Since its formation in 2018, the Leipzig-based trio led by pianist and composer Olga Reznichenko has already caused quite a stir: two years ago, WDR 3 voted their debut "Somnambule" one of the eight best jazz albums of the year. A year later, the band was nominated for the German Jazz Award in the "Band of the Year" category.

In fact, even without in-depth knowledge of the genre, you can quickly recognize the characteristic note in Reznichenko's playing: starting from classical harmonies, which go back to appropriate lessons in early childhood days, she spans a wide arc into minimalism and modern jazz. Intuition and concept are not antagonistic to each other, but go hand in hand. Pithy figures are played in loops, then deconstructed, only to be revived shortly afterwards in a new form. Reznichenko's feel for rhythmic shifts and odd meters is particularly impressive - she herself says that 5/4 is "her natural flow". Yet her playing never seems artificial or forced, but pleasantly rounded and interlocking, without closing itself off to the outside world.

She is joined by Maximilian Stadtfeld on drums and Lorenz Hugenhuber on double bass, two excellent musicians who know how to add their own touch to Reznichenko's compositions without overloading them. Together, the trio recently recorded their second album "Rhythm Dissection", which, like their debut, was released on the Berlin jazz label Traumton.
