A collaboration between Jazzclub and Leipziger Buchmesse.
Every book needs the right soundtrack. We present both together in a two-for-one double pack!
As part of the "Leipzig liest" festival, journalist Stefan Hentz will present his new book "Miles Davis. Sound eines Lebens" (Reclam). In this multi-layered portrait, he approaches the myth of the "Prince of Darkness" and sheds light on previously unknown aspects of the exceptional musician.
The book emphasizes once again that Davis cannot be reduced to a few masterpieces: from "Birth of the Cool" and "Kind Of Cool" to far beyond "Bitches Brew," he pushed the boundaries of an entire genre—as a virtuoso of change, as a contradictory personality between global success and experiences of discrimination.
The evening also looks ahead: vibraphonist Volker Heuken, together with Lorenz Heigenhuber on double bass, will present a mix of pieces by Miles Davis' companions, as well as their own compositions and improvisations, in which fragments and echoes from Miles Davis' work undergo an exciting and at the same time multi-layered update.
Reading and music enter into a lively dialogue—about influences, development, and artistic courage. An homage that does not repeat, but continues.
