Jazzclub : Johanna Summer Trio

Prices
Johanna Summer is one of the most compelling voices at the intersection of jazz and classical music. Together with Tobias Fröhlich and Jan Einar Groh, she creates an open, delicately balanced sound in their trio that effortlessly combines virtuosic playing with a sense of natural ease.
It has been nearly 10 years since Summer made her debut with her trio album *Juvenile*—and established herself overnight as one of the great hopes of the jazz scene in the German-speaking world. Now in her early 30s, she has long since outgrown that status. This is underscored not least by the media response to her six albums, which have been released since 2020 in various lineups on the renowned ACT label.
She has since moved from Dresden, where she studied until 2018, to Leipzig. Tobias Fröhlich and Jan Einar Groh, the two musicians with whom she has formed a trio since their student days, have also made Leipzig their home. The fact that Summer keeps returning to this lineup despite her numerous other projects underscores the importance this group holds within her artistic practice.
The pieces, most of which were written by Summers, are characterized by clear structures and the trio’s unpretentious interplay. Influences from jazz traditions are just as evident as traces of classical and pop music. All these strands culminate in an open soundscape that, in an implicit yet soothing way, eludes the monoculture of contemporary echo chambers.
