MusikZeit 2.0 - it goes on!

We are bringing back what had been planned for a long time, had to be postponed and so far could not find a digital or actual stage in the context of MusikZeit . We are looking forward to three concert highlights in May!

Our little festival MusikZeit has been through a lot in the past two years under pandemic conditions! Usually held in spring, the festival, which has been held under a thematic focus since 1991, has had to wander through the seasons. Some concerts had to be cancelled; the vast majority, however, could be performed under changed conditions. "Alle Register - Die Orgel im Jazz" had to be realized digitally in the winter of 2020. The result was great concert videos and conversations that shed more light on both the pipe organ and the Hammond organ, which can still be viewed online. 2021 brought us "Jazz & Nature" and with it, for the first time, concerts under the open sky. Impressions from both years can be found in our picture gallery.

And 2022? We are bringing back what had been planned for a long time, had to be postponed and so far could not find a digital or actual stage in the context of MusikZeit . We are looking forward to three concert highlights in May!

Originally planned for the MusikZeit 2020 "Alle Register - Die Orgel im Jazz", the US-American trio Goldings/Bernstein/Stewart is finally coming to Leipzig. Aretha Franklin's soulful version of "Bridge Over Troubled Water" with Billy Breston's accompaniment on the Hammond organ planted in Larry Goldings the idea of wanting to be the one himself "who orchestrates behind someone in this soulful, bluesy, absolutely tasteful way." Happily, the top-notch trio is even out with a new album to mark the band's 30th anniversary. We look forward to it "Perpetual Pendulum" at UT Connewitz on May 4.

It continues two days later at the Schaubühne Lindenfels with a live premiere! The Swiss singer Elia Rediger, the Congolese guitarist Kojack Kossakamvew, and the violist Ruth Kemna from Italy, three well-traveled members of the music and theater collective GROUP50:50, will be performing live on stage. Elia Rediger has been working closely with artist friends from the Democratic Republic of Congo for years, developing new spaces of artistic, musical dialogue. This is a special concert evening, which is also characterized by its hybridity. In addition to the musicians on site, other participants will take part in the performance via screens. Furthermore, guest musicians from Leipzig will accompany the evening during some of the pieces.

Lastly, on May 31, we will experience the second live premiere initiated especially for MusikZeit 2021 "Jazz & Nature". Blache/Dornbusch/Kraft/Summer "Schumann disrupted". Enchanted by the imagery of Robert Schumann's pieces, the four musicians* penetrate his musical templates in a multi-layered way. Their different musical backgrounds and influences form the basis for their joint experimentation.

Tickets for all three concerts are available online via TixforGigs and in the advance booking offices LVZ (Petersteinweg 19 as well as Barthels Hof) and in the Moritzbastei.

A combination ticket can be purchased for all three concerts! One-way tickets are of course still available. New and interesting for HMT students: For all three MusikZeit 2.0 concerts you can buy tickets at special conditions. Just follow the respective ticket link and select the option "Students".
