Aretha Franklin's soulful version of "Bridge Over Troubled Water" with Billy Breston's accompaniment on the Hammond organ planted in Larry Golding's mind the idea that he himself would one day want to be the one "orchestrating behind someone in that soulful, bluesy, absolutely tasteful way." Originally a jazz pianist, the Hammond organ only gradually took up considerable space in Goldings' musical output. He accompanied Maceo Parker or even John Scofield as an organist. His organ trio with Peter Bernstein and Bill Stewart has already been called "the best organ trio of the last decade" by the New York Times. Since its first release in 1991, "Toy Tunes" is the trio's twelfth album. Influenced by bop and soul jazz, the three continue to tinker with their own musical universe.
