Peter Somuah Group

Horns heirs

Sometimes music hits you like a bolt of lightning. Peter Somuah had such a moment at the age of 14 when he came across the music of Miles Davis and Roy Hargrove thanks to a tip from a friend.

After that, nothing was ever the same again: he studied the various styles of jazz intensively, seemingly refining his trumpet playing along the way. After several stays abroad, the Ghanaian finally studied jazz at the conservatory in Rotterdam, which he completed in 2021. The music Somuah has released since then is like a lightning strike: His debut album "Outer Space" was released two years ago, the title of which already describes well where it maneuvers its listeners with its sheer unstoppable joy of playing. Somuah quite rightly received the Edison Jazz Award in the "Global" category for this album. Just one year later, his second album "Letter To The Universe" followed, which, like its predecessor, combines elements of modern jazz, fusion, traditional Ghanaian music and electronics. After various concerts and tours that have taken him around the globe, he will now present his program to the Leipzig audience for the first time - Peter Somuah (tp), Jesse Schilderink (sax), Anton De Bruin (keys), Marijn van der Ven (b), Danny Rombout (perc), Jens Meijer (dr) - VVK 12/15 €, AK 15/19€
