The Kilimanjaro Darkjazz Ensemble

Film and jazz music have gone hand in hand since the dawn of cinema. The first sound film was *The Jazz Singer*, and one need only think of Miles Davis’s soundtrack to *Elevator to the Gallows*. The early work of the Kilimanjaro Darkjazz Ensemble sounds similar; the group emerged from a project to set silent films like *Nosferatu* and *Metropolis* to music.
Over the years, however, the group has evolved into much more than just a film accompaniment. Their evocative collective name already hints that, with their ethereal group improvisations, they have reached a sonic peak all their own. The music is hissing, ethereal—yes, eerie and trance-like. The sound wafts through the room, and darkness takes hold, sweeping you away.
After seventeen years, the collective is returning to Leipzig and has found the perfect venue in UT Connewitz. The former movie theater will be the setting for a uniquely sublime spectacle—don’t miss it!
