Row 2 fixed. Hayden Chisholm & Jürgen Friedrich
For the third time, Robert Lucaciu (kb) and Philipp Scholz (dr) bring artists onto the stage whose paths have rarely or never crossed before. This time: Hayden Chisholm and Jürgen Friedrich.
The convention-free sound aesthete Chisholm (sax) from New Zealand is SWR Jazz Prize winner 2013 and not only at home in jazz or improvised music. For example, he went in search of traces of German folk music for the highly acclaimed documentary "Sound of Heimat".
Jürgen Friedrich, who lives in Cologne, is the first non-American winner of the Gil Evans Award for jazz composition. Just like Chisholm, Jürgen Friedrich is not a protagonist of a testosterone-driven jazz experience. Rather, he sensitively feels his way to musical essence.
The two hosts are already world-famous in many regions and are considered one of the most promising rhythm groups. Numerous joint projects can attest to this, especially the trios PLOT (with saxophonist Sebastian Wehle) and BabY BoOmer (with guitarist and professor Werner Neumann).
So far, Achim Kaufmann (p) and the Johannes Enders (sax) have performed with Lucaciu and Scholz at the premiere as well as Rudi Mahall (bcl), Uli Kempendorff (sax) and Yves Theiler (p) at the Leipziger Jazztage in Reihe2 - or on the stage of the naTo.
