Percussion Staff feat. Günter Baby Sommer
To describe Baby Sommer as one of the most distinguished European drummers is certainly not a betrayal of secrets. Even after his seventy-fifth birthday, it remains his unconditional elixir of life to play freely in every respect and to take the listeners on journeys of sound discovery. With his museum-quality instruments, expanded with unusual parts - the Grassi is ready - or in innovative partnerships, he has faced up to challenging constellations again and again, with openness and curiosity, breaking down conventions: in a central band of four, in a duo with a mainstreamer, in the Transatlantic Freedom Suite Tentet exploring boundaries, or with Günter Grass's Word Game. With Percussion Staff, the ensemble of the evening, Sommer, together with Francesco D'Auria and four other Italian comrades-in-arms, moves in a unique way from the noisy to the romantically sensual by means of drumheads, wood, metal, water, marimba, vibraphone, trumpet, flugelhorn, whistle, shell and human voice.
