27th National Jazz Young Talent Festival (5-7.4.)

Moritzbastei

TIP

This year's edition would like to present above all those young bands that also feed their jazz from rock and pop, singer/songwriter, classical or electronic. And so Frank Heinecke and Steffen Wilde have selected from over 40 applications a few artists, some of them not entirely unknown in Leipzig, who care very little about genre boundaries.

On the very first evening there will be the already Jazztage-proven six-piece Paul Lapp Forum (tp, sax, p, kb, 2x dr) around the bassist from Leipzig, the guitar+vocals duo Choons from Berlin/Bad Liebenwerda and the Theo Kaiser Quintett (tp, sax, p, kb, dr) from Paris and Klein-Paris.

The second evening will be opened by the wide-ranging quartet Diller (tp, g, kb, dr) from Pforzheim/Hamburg/Munich, before Michal Skulski (sax), Jonas Gerigk (b) and Steffen Roth (dr) take over. From Freiberg comes b.u.m., a piano trio with electric bass, and from Berlin, among others, the band Ein Quadrat Artett (tp, g, voc, b, dr).

The last day starts with big cutlery from Leipzig/Dresden/Lübeck/Weimar: Carl Wittig's Aurora Octet combines a jazz quartet (sax, tp, kb, dr) with a string quartet. Julian Fuchs, on the other hand, focuses on his piano trio from Fulda/Berlin/Grevesmühlen. The band Nouk from Munich/Ravensburg/Dresden has perhaps the most unusual line-up: vocals and guitar are joined by viola, cello and drums. The final act is the metropolitan band Expedition Quäck from Kleinmachnow/BadSäckingen/Hegnow/Greifswald (tp, sax, p, kb, b, dr).

Today with Carl Wittig's Aurora Oktett: Matti Oehl (as), Berthold Brauer (tp), Carl Wittig (kb), Tom Friedrich (dr), Ada Schwengebecher, Hedwig Ohse (v), Sarah Rösel (va), Franziska Ludwig (vc) - Trio Fuchs: Julian Fuchs (p), Henning Schiewer (b), Simon Wupper (dr) - Nouk: Anna-Lucia Rupp (voc), Max Grüner (g), Maria Helen Körner (va), Alma Stolte (vc), Jakob Hegner (dr) - Expedition Quäck: Gabriel Rosenbach (tp), Florian Fries (ts, as, ss), Tobias Altripp (p), Henriette Thorun (kb, b), Daniel Besthorn (dr)
