jazz workshop on tour (2)
Ulli Blobel with a preview of Festival jazzwerkstatt Peitz; Concert Vesna Pisarović & Band - "With Suspicious Minds".
In her Croatian homeland, Vesna Pisarović, who comes from a punk rock background, has become a pop star. With her release "With Suspicious Minds", the now Berlin resident taps into jazz and improvised music. She is assisted by internationally experienced jazz musicians: trombonist and composer Gerhard Gschlößl (collaborations with Sam Rivers, Albert Mangelsdorff, Billy Hart, Michael Mantler, among others), Tasmanian Clayton Thomas on double bass, and Australian-born drummer and action artist Steve Heather.
Their CD is an experimental encounter with titles by the King of Rock 'n' Roll Elvis Presley. Their enjoyable improvisations between collage-like free-jazz passages, artfully cool vocals and wacky-bluesy grooves testify to the fun they have in dealing with the originals in an ironic and laconic way.
Before the concert, jazzwerkstatt maker Uli Blobel previews the 50th edition of jazzwerkstatt Peitz, taking place June 7-9, 2013.
