We all know it: this in-between zone of wakefulness and sleep. Between control and letting go.

Under the name "HYPNAGOGIA", which describes this state of mind, Marie Tjong-Ayong, Joe Weinberg and Lutz Streun succeed in creating a daydream-like sound for thinking, dancing and deep listening. What makes this trio so special is the diversity of influences: The club beats of Berlin pulsate in their music, but at the same time the sound of the traditional instrument Mbira, popular in South Africa, and mystical Maqam tonalities come into play. The trumpet played by Tjong-Ayong repeatedly sets specific accents and shines with great urgency. Together, the trio creates a fascinating soundscape that is wonderfully relaxed and at the same time full of precise musical expression.
