Jazzclub Leipzig on Sphere Radio!

In cooperation with Sphere Radio we produced our first radio show.

On July 17, the live premiere of Lancei & Uli - Mandeng x BAM took place on the forecourt of the Ostwache as part of MusikZeit 2021 "Jazz & Natur" and in cooperation with the local radio station Sphere. To learn more about the project and the motives behind it, we had arranged to meet saxophonist Uli Hueber in advance.

A conversation about ways of getting to know musical traditions, about why Uli prefers to talk about BAM (Black American Music) rather than Jazz and how the project Lancei & Uli - Mandeng x BAM came about. Furthermore, interesting facts about the local jazz scene and the activities of the Jazzclub Leipzig. In addition: music contributions selected by Uli Huebner. The one-hour program can be listened to at any time in the station's archive.

Our event on the forecourt of the neighborhood center Ostwache Leipzig e.V. in Anger-Crottendorf was also the kick-off of the long-term project "Leipzig Contains...?" initiated by Sphere Radio. The Office for Housing and Urban Renewal of the City of Leipzig provides the station with a container that will be used in the future as a public radio studio with an attached stage for discussion formats and music events. In cooperation with (socio-)cultural initiatives from Leipzig, an interactive space is to be created. The radio makers would like to explore the question of what function radio can take on in public space.
