Lancei & Uli - Mandeng x BAM

"The world becomes a club"! A concert also in memory of the New York Jazzmobile tradition.

"Jazzmobile is like an institution in New York City," US drummer Kenny Washington begins to say on a panel during Jazz Congress 2020 at Lincoln Center, and is directly interrupted by a jeering audience applauding. In 1964, the open-air concert series "Jazzmobile" was founded by the pianist Billy Taylor and continues to this day, enabling the enthusiastically narrating Washington to experience jazz and its protagonists live as a child, since he was still barred from entering clubs, and to develop a lasting enthusiasm for the music himself. This is how he first got to hear Lee Morgan and Art Blakey. Although not on wheels, but also free of charge and outside, the concert with the new formation Lancei & Uli - Mandeng x BAM will take place in the spirit of this tradition. Saxophonist Uli Huebner welcomes the low-threshold access to the concert - people strolling by can spontaneously linger and meet those who had made their way from the other side of town especially to hear the concert. "The world becomes a club," he says, looking forward to the deconstruction of the concert space as one inside and reserved for the group of people informed in advance. He is also looking forward to the first musical encounter with djembéfola Lancei Dioubate, who comes from a family of West African griots - "people who are born inside music" as griot Sibo Bangoura describes it during a TEDx Talk - and who now teaches his skills in Leipzig.

The concert will also be available live online in cooperation with Sphere Radio Leipzig.

Free admission, donations requested.
