FUTURUM 2022
Founded in 1991 as a nationwide festival for young jazz talents by Moritzbastei Leipzig and Jazzclub Leipzig as a forum for young jazz projects from all over Germany is now FUTURUM!
The founding idea was to open doors and replace bias by getting to know each other! Shortly after German reunification, the jazz scene was also to be encouraged to grow together. This approach still characterizes the festival today, which, on the occasion of its thirtieth anniversary, continues to bring together young musicians from all over the country under its new title FUTURUM. FUTURUM aims to present exciting approaches to current jazz music in all its facets and to bring its protagonists together with an interested audience. A special feature is that the HMT Stage Night, the session of the students of the University of Music and Theatre, which has been held weekly at the Moritzbastei during the lecture period since 2021, has already made the venue an established meeting place for the lively Leipzig scene. This year's festival edition was curated by the Moritzbastei in collaboration with the Jazzclub Leipzig, which brought in Leipzig drummer Max Stadtfeld to support the FUTURUM programming. This cooperation should also form the basis for the coming years. There are exciting thoughts and ideas - we'll keep you posted and look forward to two exciting festival days with the classics of tomorrow!
