LET'S TALK ABOUT JAZZ, BABY
"2018 has been a good year so far. I got a discount!" Sophie Passmann recently told her friend and copperplate engraver Christian Meyer. And who knows, maybe the year will even bring the rest of us a federal government...
But let's not get overconfident - and make do with a few nice concerts in February for now. That's already something! Drummer Max Stadtfeld opens with his Schlappus concert (or what do you call it, Stax?) on February 5 at the naTo, while vibraphonist Volker Heuken invites us to the Telegraph with his "Portugalsuite" and his sextet on February 8. The young pianist Robbi Nakayama will also be playing there with his trio (15.2.). On February 21, we will once again be guests at UT Connewitz - with Philipp Rumsch and his twelve-piece ensemble. The band is on a record release tour for their first album, which is being released by one of our favorite labels: Denovali.
And if our concerts aren't enough for you, head to Kurt Weill in Dessau or jump into the Kulturnhalle in Probstheida. The Xenophobia Quartet and Zwitschermaschine are two very interesting young bands playing there this month. Plus Yves Theiler's trio and Luise Volkmann's Été Large at Horns, and the JJO Sachsen with Malte Schiller twice in the surrounding area (Colditz and Zwenkau). Not bad. And in terms of pop, with Wandl, Algiers and Dillon, it's more pop than moderate. And we haven't even talked about the reunion of Urlaub in Polen or the "Unter meinem Bett" concert for young and old!
