LET’S TALK ABOUT JAZZ...
That enchanting aroma, that rich green color, its grandeur—all the kids love it, and the whole family gathers around it—it’s the absolute highlight of every Christmas: Brussels sprouts. The absolute concert highlights for December 2015, on the other hand, can be found—as usual—only here, at Jazzkalender, the “Brussels sprouts” of event magazines.
The beginning of the month already has plenty to offer: Evgeny Ring, the saxophonist and 2015 winner of the Leipzig Young Jazz Talent Award, will perform at the Telegraph with the alternative jazz quartet Bazga from Cologne, followed the next day by Maike Lindemann with Matthias Kurth and her jazz-pop debut album “big sky. little bird.” And because we love Maike’s voice so much, we’ve invited her back for a second performance: together with pianist Flo Kästner, bassist Pepe Berns, and the program “Celebrating Billie Holiday”—as part of our Flashback classics series, this time in the hall of Neue Musik Leipzig. Together with the Jazzkollektiv Leipzig, we’re presenting the brand-new project *Körper* by guitarist and composer Moritz Sembritzki at the Telegraph. And just before the holidays: Wespennest! The international, ten-piece band led by Moritz Wesp, a student of Wogram and Partyka. Plus a touch of the HMT Christmas party, the annual Euphorium Festival, a double concert by Spielvereinigung, Das Kapital, as well as Kraftwerk and The Notwist. No gifts this year—all the money went toward concert tickets…
Although! You can actually combine the two quite brilliantly: gifts and concert tickets! In early 2016, for example, Nils Wogram’s Root 70 will be playing their new album, along with the brand-new Egolaut band, the ever-evolving Reihe2 featuring Michael Wollny & Ronny Graupe, and The Profs (Schrabbe, Wollny, Neumann, Berns & Köbberling), as well as Erika Stucky with her highly acclaimed new Jimi Hendrix Quartet. All tickets are already available for advance purchase at Culton (culton.de, 0341 14 16 18, Peterssteinweg 9) and come with a personal recommendation from Santa Claus! And a gift certificate for the 40th “ Leipziger Jazztage ” (Sept. 29 – Oct. 8, 2016) is, of course, already available.
Ho ho ho!
