LET'S ABOUT JAZZ CALENDAR #257 November 2015
While most pictures these days hang in frames from a Swedish furniture store, the 39th Leipzig Jazz Days were Norwegian-framed. And how! The Norske Blåseennemble's "Nosferatu" with Michael Wollny and Eric Schaefer opened the festival, while electro-jazz pioneer Nils Petter Molvær closed 10 days of "Cinematic Jazz." Both concerts were certainly among the absolute Jazz Days highlights, not only of this year. And no, we don't want to underestimate the brilliant performances of Omer Klein and The Micronaut! Nor those of Brad Mehldau, Schnellertollermeier, the Sons of Elam and ... many, many thanks also to you, shortfilmlivemusic, Echtzeit, LU:V, Wayne Karntz, Nahtanoi, Burnt Friedman & Daniel Dodd-Ellis, An On Bast & Maciej Fortuna, Renaud García-Fons, Klima Kalima, Sex Mob, Johanna Borchert, Trio Schmetterling and Evgeny Ring Quartet!
Thank you also, dear colleagues in Schauspiel, UT, Passage Kino, Telegraph, Horns, Conne Island, St. Georg, in naTo, Moritzbastei, Schaubühne, Philippus- and Thomaskirche!
Thank you also, dear patrons, sponsors and supporters of the Leipzig Jazz Days, especially at the Cultural Office of the City of Leipzig, the Cultural Foundation of the Free State of Saxony, the BMW Leipzig branch and the Köstritzer Schwarzbierbrauerei!
A big thank you also to all of you who tore down tickets, picked up bands, hauled and adjusted equipment and instruments, and to you, dear audience - you all made it a great festival for our musicians!
You don't want to believe it, but the Jazz Days are over. And now? No breathing space! Concerts will be attended: once a week Jazzclub Live presents such illustrious names as Aaron Goldberg and The Bad Plus, but also promising bands from Leipzig in a club atmosphere. With "Flashback" there is a completely new series. So the wait for the 40th Leipzig Jazz Days will be entertaining - but you can already mark the 29.9. to 8.10.2016 in the calendar!
