LET'S TALK ABOUT JAZZ, PHILIPP
Having his own passport a year before the GITARRENGIPFEL - my dear Scholli! And "Scholli" is almost right: because Philipp Scholz is the one who! The one who already had his own passport in 2016, who is also playing with three bands at this year's Jazztage - and who has won the Leipzig Jazz Newcomer Award 2017 including 6,500 euros from the Marion Ermer Foundation!
Congratulations to you, dear Philipp! And we agree with every single word of the furious text in the Jazztage program booklet, which was written by someone whose name we don't want to reveal here. Because of the surprise! It's not Bert Noglik, Wolf Kampmann or Ulrich Steinmetzger - the three of them have written about other Jazztage acts, also very, very worth reading. Speaking of the Jazztage: Here we go! While we are working on this Jazzkalender , the very last Pat Metheny tickets have just gone on sale. We have never sold out the opera house so early. All the better that there are a total of 14 guitarists to experience at the festival, from Gilad Hekselman at the opening to Tobias Hoffmann at the closing. In between, Egberto Gismonti (with Maria João!), Jakob Bro, Werner Neumann, Kalle Kalima, Monika Roscher, Bertram Burkert, Giovanni Weiss... There are also two events outside of the festival concerts: the screening of the new feature film "Born To Be Blue" about Chet Baker on October 15 in the Prager Frühling cinema bar and the lecture by photographer Arne Reimer about his visits to the "American Jazz Heroes" on October 21 in the concert foyer of the opera house.
By the way, we've been in the middle of the Jazzclub live season again since September, friends! The daily HMT Stage Night starts on October 10, Flo Kästner and Johannes Enders play on October 27.
