Jazz calendar #325

LET'S TALK ABOUT JAZZ ... and a look back.

The temperatures are dropping, the clothes are getting longer, it's that time again: the year is drawing to a close. The Christmas rush is slowly but surely spreading. It smells of Christmas baking and gift stress. This special pre-Christmas period also offers the opportunity to look back on the year. And so we as a jazz club would also like to take a look back.

So let's rewind the 2023 tape and stop at a few highlights.

In April, we were guests at the German Jazz Award ceremony in Bremen, where - among many others - a very special prize was awarded: Joachim Kühn and Rolf Kühn received the special prize for their life's work, which Joachim Kühn accepted on behalf of himself and his brother, who died in accepted on behalf of himself and his brother, who died in 2022.

The following encounters with familiar and new faces at the subsequent Jazzahead trade fair in Bremen not only filled our pockets with lots of business cards, but also led to many nice encounters and conversations.

Another highlight of this year was undoubtedly our MUSIKZEIT. We look back fondly on the open-air concerts amidst the lush greenery of Villa Hasenholz.

We are also particularly proud of the 47th edition of the Leipzig Jazz Days, during which we were able to see many exceptional concerts and - true to this year's motto - establish new connections. As the crowning glory, we were able to receive the Applause Award for our Jazzclub Live series in the category "Best small venues and concert series" directly after the Leipzig Jazz Days.

All in all, 2023 was a very benevolent year for us, full of musical highlights and significant moments that we are proud to store in our memories.

But we can't forget to look ahead either, as there are many more new music highlights ahead of us that you shouldn't miss: Jazzclub Live is coming to nato in December with a triple bill. On 1.12. the Melt Trio will be playing there, on 8.12. we welcome A Million O Clock and on 16.12. we say goodbye to hibernation with a concert by the Reinald Brederling Quintet!

We also recommend the Advenzz Benefizz Stage Night Special on December 12 at the Moritzbastei, as well as an extraordinary concert in the new year: On January 18 and 19, Michael Wollny will play together with the Gewandhaus Orchestra for the first time and premiere the piano concerto "Genesis" by the Leipzig composer Bernd Franke.
