Jazz calendar #313

LET'S TALK ABOUT JAZZ ... and let go.

Beads of sweat run down your body. It is hot. Skin to skin. You can feel the people around you, no matter how strange they are to you. Raise your arms, dance, let go. You and all the other people around you suddenly become your own mass, your own form with your own rhythm. Community, although you don't know anyone here, and yet you suddenly belong to a great whole made up of many individuals. The whole mass moves together, in time, swinging from right to left. To sink into the mass or to merge into the mass, you can have whatever you want. Isn't that freedom?

In which moments do you still feel such a feeling, except at concerts and festivals? This freedom that permeates the whole body. Or are we experiencing it so particularly right now because we all think the pandemic is over? We let go, allow ourselves everything again, have somehow made peace with the danger of being infected. We are less afraid. I wonder if that's what makes these experiences so special.

In any case, this (festival) summer was a very special one.

And as if we were thirsting again for this special feeling of letting go, as if this experience had been far too long ago, fortunately our September jazz calendar comes around the corner with a raised forefinger to tell us: Cool down, nothing is over here yet.

Grandiose concert formats, festivals in the city. Leipzig's autumn once again has a lot to offer. Newcomers and established artists, regional or international, indoors or outdoors. Everything is there.

September starts with the TARMAC Festival at the airfield in Allstedt for all fans of electronic music. It continues with a very special event from the VARY and the IG Funk&Soul - they bring the namely jazz-funk trio AZYMUTH from Rio de Janeiro to Leipzig. The Flashback Curtis Fuller (Mathias Hochmuth) concert at Werkcafé and pianist Peter Bence at Haus Auensee round off the middle of September. This concert month will be concluded with "She just left" at mjut, as well as the Balance/Club Culture Festival, which will be held in various venues around the city.

Have a lot of fun. See you very soon,
