LET'S TALK ABOUT JAZZ... and behind the times!
Looking back, it's sometimes hard to pinpoint the beginning of something: Which look led to the word, and which word to the first feverishly anticipated summer romance kiss? What happened when, that 90s fashion faux pas are worn on the hip miles of this city like the funkiest fumbles of today and those who were young at the time must think that time travel is no longer science fiction?
Questions that are best answered when a crazy and loud music compilation from those days (BRAVO HITS 7, for example) is playing in the background. But what is this actually about? About the maelstrom of work that the organization of a music festival on the scale of the Leipzig Jazz Days entails and the silliness that is sometimes necessary to get through this time well and rested (rarely but sometimes) despite the deafening clatter of the deadlines!
You already know it. The Leipzig Jazz Days 2021 "BODY TIME" are in a hurry! Already on the last day of September we invited to the festival opening in the Musikalische Komödie. What a prelude: The Jazz Young Talent Award of the City of Leipzig with the support of the Marion Ermer Foundation celebrates its 25th anniversary. Bert Noglik, music journalist and until 2007 Artistic Director of the Leipzig Jazz Days, is this year handing over his place on the jury, of which he has been a member since the beginning, to drummer Eva Klesse and hopes that "impulses from the scene" will also lead to more female musicians applying for the prize in the future and thus also be given the opportunity to be awarded it. So here begins something new and we note the moment. Who will receive the prize this year and thus also play the first concert of the festival, you will find out shortly!
Following and in trio with Larry Grenadier and Joey Baron: Jakob Bro. The filigree playing of the Danish guitarist moved to tears during his last visit to the city - that was in 2017 - and in the office we already received incredulous, as well as joyfully excited calls, so we gladly confirm it once again: Yes, he is coming! It won't be long now. Which brings us back to the question of time and what it's like to be behind it. At the moment, the days would like to be longer. So that everything, but also really everything becomes very good on the Leipzig Jazztage! We don't want less. That's clear. But why the worries: The program is set. The advance sale is running. The musicians' trips are being planned. Sports socks always go. You will come. So run!
Maybe there is still a crane somewhere?
See you soon.
