Sociocultural center at Connewitzer Kreuz, built in 1848 as a gas knife factory

After the end of the GDR and the closure of VEB Werkstoffprüfmaschinen Leipzig, the use of Werk 2 as a "culture factory" began in 1992, initially as Leipziger Kulturzentrum Connewitzer Kreuz e.V.. , later and until today as WERK 2 - Kulturfabrik Leipzig e.V.

During the Leipzig Jazz Days, Micatone, Jazzanova, Mouse on Mars, Ye:Solar, Jazzrausch Bigband, Electro Deluxe, Nubiyan Twist, Matthew Herbert and others have played here so far.
