DENOVALI 10

Piano Interruted, Poppy Ackroyd, Ricardo Donoso and Field Rotation on 5/17 for MusikZeit at UT Connewitz.

The legendary independent label Denovali from Bochum turns ten - and we invite four Denovali acts to our annual mini-festival in Leipzig. In dark jazz, ambient and drone circles Denovali has long enjoyed legendary status - not only thanks to its swing festivals in Essen, Berlin and London. Artists like Greg Haines, the Hidden Orchestra or the Contemporary Noise Sextet stand for experimental music in a class of its own.
So do the multi-layered minimal duo Piano Interrupted and the British pianist and violinist Poppy Ackroyd, who combine their classical instruments with electronic sounds. Boston-based Brazilian percussionist Ricardo Donoso is as influenced by new music as he is by drone and techno. Berlin-based Christoph Berg aka Field Rotation creates electro-acoustic soundscapes.
Just as in its other projects, Jazzclub Leipzig also focuses on sophisticated contemporary music at MusikZeit . Electronic music has played a major role in this for years, whether in contemporary jazz or in currents outside of jazz. Acts such as Mouse on Mars, Bugge Wesseltoft & Henrik Schwarz or the Hidden Orchestra have performed at the Leipzig Jazz Days to date.
Every year since 1991, MusikZeit has presented innovative artists who have provoked new developments in jazz music or introduced specific cultural areas. The MusikZeit is sponsored by the Cultural Office of the City of Leipzig and the Cultural Foundation of the Free State of Saxony.
