XJAZZ!

Berlin-Kreuzberg

From May 2 to 8, the XJAZZ! Festival in Berlin-Kreuzberg enters its 9th year. Over 70 concerts are planned, ranging from newcomers to familiar faces.

Genre boundaries are transgressed, clichés are broken. In 2014, the XJAZZ! GmbH was founded to organize a jazz festival with the aim of filling a gap that had previously been wide open even in the trendy city of Berlin. Not elitist, not just commercial, it's about music - period. So says a video of the crew, in which Ulla C. Binder, Sebastian Studnitzky, Daniel Best and Florian Burger recall the start of the project.

Now it's that time again and, alongside headliners such as Avishai Cohen, José James and Theo Croker, there are up-and-coming artists such as Emma-Jean Thackray and Salomea as well as German jazz veterans such as the Markus Stockhausen Group. Once again, this promises to be anything but dry. In addition to jazz, excursions into electronic, pop and classical music are the order of the day. XJAZZ! is a must for lovers of both older and contemporary jazz in venues that are otherwise more likely to be used for "party culture".
