SALOMEA / DJ Allynx

In a sense, the closing night of the festival at Werk 2 offers the musical antithesis to this year’s opera evening at the “ Leipziger Jazztage ”: With SALOMEA and DJ Allynx, we’ve invited two acts whose sounds—each in their own unique way—bridge the gap between classic jazz and funk tunes and contemporary pop culture sounds that are right on the cutting edge.

Since their formation in the early 2010s, the former have become a central figurehead of the Cologne scene. With their eclectic sound, the formation around frontwoman Rebekka Salomea Ziegler pays tribute to legendary jazz singers such as Sharon Jones, Ella Fitzgerald and Billie Holiday as well as contemporary hip hop and soulful pop sounds.

Berlin-based DJ Allynx, on the other hand, is now at the forefront of Berlin's club culture with her sound, which ranges between poly-rhythmic Afrobeat, nu jazz and soul. But whether it's a hip rave venue or a time-honored jazz festival, when DJ Allynx gets going on the turntables, everyone dances.
