O Solitude

One of the many pitfalls of loneliness is that those affected tend to believe they are alone in dealing with this issue. The sheer number of self-help books, coaches, and seminars that flood the market month after month alone shows that this is by no means the case.
The Morphesk ensemble’s new project, “O Solitude,” also underscores the relevance of this theme. It approaches the subject in an interdisciplinary manner: through an evocative interplay of music and text, perspectives from culture, society, philosophy, and psychology are explored and connected. The interweaving of original works from the Middle Ages, the Baroque, the Romantic period, and (post-)modernism—along with elements of improvisation—provides an approach to the subject that is both playful and emotionally profound.
A glance at the lineup underscores that the musical aspect is given just as much attention as the content: It includes, among others, violinist Teresa Allgeier, who works in the fields of contemporary classical and experimental pop music and who performed with her duo Fallwander at the Leipzig Jazz Festival just last October.
