What does “Ambient Americana Jazz” sound like? Anyone who’s always wondered about this might find an answer this evening at Horns Erben—from Malo Moray and Jan Soutschek, who will be celebrating the release of their debut EP, “Aura,” there.
Both musicians have been key pillars of Leipzig’s experimental music scene for many years. Moray, above all, through his solo project, for which he was awarded the German Record Critics’ Prize just this year. And Soutschek, in particular, as the operator of the Studio für Klanggestaltung, where he has produced works not only by Moray but also by El Buhó, Sophie Alice, and many others.
Ever since a chance encounter some time ago, the two have been collaborating as a duo, indulging their shared passion for ethereal soundscapes and minimalist beats, as well as artists like Brian Eno, Laurie Anderson, and David Sylvian.
