KLASSIK underground presents The Wunderhorn Festival (19.-22.5.)

Event series KLASSIK underground becomes a wunderhorn festival miracle!
This time, members of top international orchestras will come together for special, literary-inspired chamber music encounters in the unique premises of the Moritzbastei after their concerts with Mahler symphonies in the Gewandhaus.
The collection of folk song texts "Des Knaben Wunderhorn" published by Achim von Arnim and Clemens Brentano, from which Goethe predicted that "new significant melodies could be elicited", became key texts of artistic self-discovery for Gustav Mahler in his Wunderhorn songs. It is no coincidence that other important composers were inspired to write wonderful works, some of which can now be heard on four late festival evenings in connection with original Wunderhorn texts performed by Benjamin Mahns-Mardy (singer/actor) and Armin Zarbock (actor/director). An ingenious contribution worth experiencing in its own right, not only on the fringes of a Mahlerian Gewandhaus Festival of unsurpassable format with Gustav Mahler's complete symphonic works as well as a versatile supporting program - right next door to the big house on Augustusplatz.
Miracles happen [...again and again], at least in the MB!
