German National Library / Philippus Church

The latest edition of the Jazzwerkstatt Peitz took place in August. Firmly anchored in the present, it also looks back on a long and eventful past: founded in 1973 by organizer Ulli Blobel, it quickly gained the reputation of being the "Woodstock on the carp pond".

The latest edition of the Jazzwerkstatt Peitz took place in August. Firmly anchored in the present, it also looks back on a long and eventful past: founded in 1973 by organizer Ulli Blobel, it quickly gained the reputation of being the "Woodstock at the carp pond". However, the GDR state authorities did not approve of the "troublemakers" going about their business there: the festival was banned without further ado in 1982, before finally being reactivated in 2006.

With its diverse program, the Jazzwerkstatt Special is a reminder of the courage that has always emanated from the festival. Not only did it become a factor for progressive music, but also and above all for democracy and civil courage. The occasion for the event is the Peitz Jazzwerkstatt archive, which was recently adopted by the German National Library as a national cultural asset.

Top-class artists such as Conny Bauer, Kit Downes, Joe Sachse and Myra Melford underline the status that the Jazzwerkstatt Peitz rightly enjoys today with their performances. The event is rounded off with accompanying lectures and discussion events - with Conny Bauer, Joe Sachse, Kit Downes and many more. - Festival pass 100 €, day ticket 50 €
