The Pyramids
In the climate of upheaval of the early 1970s, a collective emerged around Idris Ackamoor, charged equally by politics and music, celebrating spiritual jazz as liberated music-making beyond genre barriers.
The Pyramids cut an incredible cultural swath: influenced equally by Coltrane and Sun Ra, as well as by an exploration of the roots of African-American music history, or by experiences on extended journeys through Africa, they are now inspirations for outspoken devotees like Caribou or Flying Lotus.
