Sylvain Kassap & Lucas Niggli
TIP
campus inter|national // 149 // jazz
The Villa Ida campus is always a good address for unique and, this time, first-time events. In fact, clarinettist Sylvain Kassap and the drummer Lucas Niggli, whom he had requested for the concert here, have never been on stage together before.
Kassap is active in a wide range of musical fields. His playing style as a partner of Phil Minton, Sam Rivers, Barre Phillips, Michel Godard, Baby Sommer combines influences of jazz, free improvisation, imaginary folklore and traditional music. He composes film and theater music and interprets works by Luciano Berio, John Cage, Karlheinz Stockhausen.
Lucas Niggli, who has just released his first solo album "Alchemia Garden", acts on his percussion parts with an unmistakably opulent manner of his own: unleashedly passionate and reducedly concentrated, virtuosically pulsating and delicately precise. Whether in Steamboat Switzerland, with Andreas Schaerer, Nils Wogram, Elliott Sharp, or Erika Stucky, whether at the Donaueschinger Musiktage or at the Jazz Festival in Moers.
Kassap & Niggli - not a 'blind date' of nasty surprise, but a promising encounter that promises a sound experience of vital contemporary music. So, be there!
