Sven Kacirek "The Nutcracker Sessions"
TIP
While Jean-Philippe Dury's ballet "The Nutcracker" with Peter Tchaikovsky's music is being performed in the opera hall, Sven Kacirek from Hamburg is playing his "Nutcracker Sessions" in the UT. The percussionist has taken the classic thoroughly apart and screwed it back together a bit more airily - it rattles, clicks and clatters at all ends of his "Nutcracker Sessions." He meticulously stitches together acoustic patterns that sound electronic. Iconic melodies like the "Dance of the Sugarplum Fairy" sound unexpectedly new. With musique concrète quotes, twelve-tone music, jazz and deconstructed electronic music, Kacirek brings the Nutcracker from the past into the present in a kind of time travel.
