T I P - And every quarter the groundhog says hello... The exceptional Leipzig big band also presents two guests for its second concert of 2014: avant-garde composer Sascha Henkel and alto saxophonist/clarinetist Benjamin Weidekamp, both from Berlin. The program includes the two-part "AEROGEL vs. OPTIONS" by former SpVgg-Sued guitarist Henkel, which takes the big band sound body into the field of tension between composition and improvisation. The first part of the concert is based on poems by Anat Mtoumna (speaker: Matthias Knoche), the second part transforms the big band into a collective improvisation orchestra; soloist Benjamin Weidekamp explores the possibilities of saxophone playing by incorporating microtonality.
