Kurt Weill Festival: "Paradise Lost
T I P
World premiere of the ballet freely adapted from John Milton's Paradise Lost
Soloists, ballet, orchestra of the Anhaltisches Theater Dessau, Daniel Carlberg (conductor)
The dialogue between music and language is the central theme of this year's 23rd Festival program. After all, the adequate fusion of language and music in collaboration with the best writers of his time was one of the foundations of Kurt Weill's work as one of the most important innovators of 20th century music.
In nearly 60 concerts at 20 venues, as well as an attractive supporting program, a bridge is built between music history and current musical events. The song style developed by Weill is still relevant today. It is no coincidence that jazz musicians are inspired by the works of the successful Broadway composer. Festival guests include the Leipzig Jazz Days artists MDR Sinfonieorchester with Kristjan Järvi, Ensemble Modern, HK Gruber, Julia Hülsmann, Dieter Ilg, Ute Lemper, Dieter Meier, Katharina Thalbach, Christian and Wolfgang Muthspiel, and as artist in residence Cornelia Froboess.
