Chamber Music and Film: "Oscar for Hanns Eisler..."
The Gewandhaus series Chamber Music and Film begins 2012/2013 with a tribute to Hanns Eisler (50th anniversary of his death, 115th birthday on July 6, 2013). Eisler composed not only political songs, but also numerous chamber music, orchestral pieces, stage works, film scores, as well as poems by Goethe, Hölderlin, Tucholski, Brecht, among others. 6 p.m.: Hanns Eisler - "Niemandslandmarsch for piano", Brecht songs as well as works by Stefan Wolpe with Holger Falk (baritone) and Steffen Schleiermacher (p);
8 p.m.: Fritz Lang's anti-Nazi film drama "Hangman also die" with Eisler's 1944 "Oscar" nominated music.
