Hailu Mergia
With Moog synthesizer, Fender Rhodes piano and rhythm machine, accordionist Hailu Mergia revolutionized the traditional music of Ethiopia when he psychedelically electrified purely acoustic folk songs in the 1980s, mixed them with elements of jazz and blues and re-recorded them as rapturous instrumentals. For a long time it was very quiet around the sound pioneer. Awesome tapes from Africa now re-released his album - and Hailu Mergia comes to Leipzig for a trio concert.
The concert is supported by the Leipzig-Addis Ababa city partnership and the Jazzclub Leipzig.
