Eskelin/Weber/Griener
While at the same time it's pretty 'roasting' elsewhere (see: the naTo, EUPHORIUM festival), Ellery Eskelin blows experimental Advent songs into his horn. The New York tenor saxophonist is undoubtedly one of the important figures of the improvisation scene there. Effortlessly, in his very own way, he combines classic standards such as "Ain't Misbehavin'" or "China Boy" without common platitudes in seemingly unbridled playing through controlled discontinuity and unexpected turns to emotionally deepened events. He is more than assisted by the soloistically impressive Swiss double bassist Christian Weber and the winner of the New German Jazz Award Michael Griener on percussion. It is no coincidence that their intakt CD from 2017 was called "sensation of tone". With their latest release "The Pearls" in their luggage, Eskelin &Co. will now transport no less programmatically gems of sound art into the campus auditorium!
