Daniel Erdmann's Velvet Revolution
The Schillersaal on campus is something like his feel-good living room, which he visits regularly. He always has something new in his luggage. After earlier capital events, this time Daniel Erdmann on tenor, together with the ingeniously captivating Théo Ceccaldi on violin and viola and the West African rhythmic drummer and vibraphonist Jim Hart, celebrates a cautiously transformative departure to earthy airiness, swirling detachment, vocal richness of tone color as internalized chamber music of great inner freedom. At the Jazz Echo awards it was said "A touch of cool swing and the joy of pointillistic sound dabs and unexpected turns... creates... moments of weightlessness". In 1989, the "Gentle Revolution" in Prague was not too far away from the "Leipzig Autumn". Now, for Leipzig's jazz devotees, the path to Velvet Revolution should be quite obvious!
