37th International Jazz Festival Saalfelden (25.-28.8.)
TIP
Saalfelden has a firm place in the European festival calendar as a place with an unsurpassable feel-good atmosphere, where young jazz and international greats can be experienced in innovative projects at the same time. Under the guiding principle "The Sound as Object", the sound diversity of current jazz will be highlighted this time. Some of the highlights are:
The chamber music elegance and unstoppable intensity of cellist Vincent Courtois in concert with saxophonists Daniel Erdmann and Robin Fincker. The raging jazz-rock fusion of the Norwegian trio Krokofant. A slice of living jazz history with Marty Ehrlich and Ray Anderson. The melodic abstraction of free jazz by Emile Parisien, Joachim Kühn and Michel Portal. The unusual virtuosic cosmos of the Korean-Australian trio Chiri. The sweet jazz rock tones of US trumpeter Daniel Rosenboom. The "Supersonic" homage to Sun Ra by saxophonist and singer Thomas de Pourquery. The electric avant-garde charm of Schaerer/Biondini/Kalima/Niggli. The experimental melancholy of cellist Tomeka Reid. The emotional intellectuality of trumpeter Sudana Santos Silva. The ethereal folky sounds of Erlend Apneseth on the Hardanger fiddle. The "human-feel "ing with Chris Speed, Andrew D'Angelo, Kurt Rosenwinkel and Jim Black. The groovy overtaking of New Orleans and blues into today by the nine-piece "Viper's Drag" band of Henry Butler and Steven Bernstein.
