18th Festival LeipJAZZig
"Old Songs. Steps plays Verdi" with Jörg Leistner (p, arr), Thomas Moritz (b), Frank-Endrik Moll (dr, perc);
Daniel Barke Quartet with Daniel Barke (sax, voc), Valentin Stahl (p), Sascha Paul Stratmann (b), Eva Klesse (dr).
Moritz is also active on the double bass when the Trio Steps approaches the "Old Standards" of the 200-year-old Guiseppe Verdi with big steps. Frank-Endrik Moll provides the striking proof that Verdi's passionate melodies - arranged by pianist Jörg Leistner - can also be made to swing in a jazzy way.
The tonal-noisy singer Daniel Barke comes on stage together with his saxophone in a quartet with Valentin Stahl (p), Sascha Paul Stratmann (b) and Eva Klesse (dr). All "traffic lights" are set to green to give free rein to influences from Wayne Shorter, Chet Baker and Maceo Parker to enrich their own musical ideas.
