Flashback #35: Johnny Griffin (by Hübner/ Kleimann/ Mück/ Müller/ Trunk)

The 35th Flashback concert is dedicated to the "fastest saxophonist in the world", the legendary "Little Giant" Johnny Griffin. The jazz musician is known for his outstanding playing technique, powerful stage presence and expressive tenor saxophone playing.

In this Flashback edition, musicians from Leipzig take on the unconventional album "Change Of Pace", which is characterized by a successful balance between the rough-and-tumble nature of hard bop and a melodious, pleasant style of playing.

Florian Müller and Frederik Kleimann on double basses lend Griffin's sophisticated arrangements a unique dynamic. Ulrich Hübner on tenor saxophone, accompanied by Alma Trunk on trombone, brings the rugged idiosyncrasies of hard bop to life in a lyrical and cozy style, while Anton Mück on drums carries the pulse of the band.
