Nubya Garcia's modern sound makes jazz accessible to a young generation that may have had little exposure to the genre. About two years ago, the artist released her debut album "Source", in which, as the New York Times reports, she shares "a whole life full of experiences in [just] one hour".

For several years now, Nubya Garcia has been part of an up-and-coming young scene in the UK that interweaves jazz tradition with musical influences from British youth cultures. As a saxophonist, composer and DJ, she shapes an afro-futuristic sound that is absolutely danceable and club-ready.

As a child, she learned the violin, then the viola, and later the saxophone. Nubya Garcia was accepted into the Junior Jazz Program of the Royal Academy of Music and received a scholarship to the summer program of the renowned Berklee College of Music while still a student. She eventually graduated with honors as a jazz instrumentalist. Nubya Garcia has already toured Latin America, Asia and Europe. Unfortunately, she had to cancel her visit to Leipzig last November due to the pandemic. All the greater is the joy that we can welcome her this year as a guest at the Leipziger Jazztage.
