The Ibeam in Brooklyn is a place where improvisation artists meet to go on joint free-for-all excursions with a Schimmel grand piano, a Gretsch drum kit and an official sound system. The Leipzig pianist Simone Weißenfels once met Max Johnson there, who in turn met the drummer Willi Kellers at the same place, who played elsewhere with Simone Weißenfels. And now she has the idea to bring all three of them together on one stage. And because it is too far for all of us to go to New York, the three of them come to the Telegraph to play together for the first time. Max Johnson has already been on stage with Anthony Braxton and John Zorn, Willi Kellers on the other hand with Simone Weißenfels - for the first time in 1991 at the Leipziger Jazztage, which at that time was a guest at the opera house for the first time. The pianist often works across genres in the fields of contemporary and classical music, jazz, improvisation and electronica.
